Black Queens assistant captain, Jennifer Cudjoe, has described Ghana’s bronze medal finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as a major achievement for the team.
Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV following the tournament, Cudjoe expressed pride in the team’s performance, highlighting the significance of securing a podium finish amid fierce competition.
“I feel blessed and grateful because not all people get this opportunity. A lot of people came and they went, and nothing happened, and my goal has always been that one day, I’ll win something for Ghana. So having won this for Ghana is a greater accomplishment”.
The 2024 WAFCON marked the first major tournament under the leadership of new head coach Kim Lars, who took over earlier this year. His fresh approach, coupled with the team’s determination, proved vital in their success.
Cudjoe also acknowledged the contributions of her current teammates in helping restore the team’s pride on the continental stage.
“It’s great to have been part of such a group of girls to be able to make that dream come true, we could have not even come home with anything but having the bronze medal we’re grateful for that, and it just feels great to know that I got something for Ghana,” she told GHOne TV.
The Black Queens will now set their sights on qualification for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, with hopes of building on their WAFCON momentum.
