President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Mrs. Efua Ghartey, has charged members of the judiciary to act with courage and integrity in the discharge of their duties, stressing that their moral conduct is key to sustaining Ghana’s democracy and public trust in the legal system.
Delivering a goodwill message at the 44th Annual Conference of the Association of Magistrates and Judges of Ghana on Wednesday, October 1, Mrs. Ghartey described judges as “the conscience keepers of the nation” whose integrity safeguards the country’s moral foundations.
“Where you act with courage and integrity, public trust deepens and Ghana’s moral foundations are strengthened before the world,” she said, urging judges to embrace their calling with the seriousness it deserves.
While acknowledging the role of technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in modernising justice delivery, she reminded the judiciary that efficiency must not come at the expense of accountability, transparency, and openness.

“Do us proud by ensuring that our justice delivery system is undergirded by the principles of accountability, transparency, openness and accessibility,” she urged.
Mrs. Ghartey also pointed to Ghana’s ranking on the global Rule of Law Index, where the country is placed 62nd overall. She explained that improving this standing would not only attract investors, tourists, and international goodwill but also affirm Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of justice in Africa.
“Ultimately, let us aim not merely for a score, but for a system that is the pride of Africa and a beacon for the world,” she declared.
Quoting Methodist hymn writer George Duffield, she encouraged the judiciary to see their work as more than a profession, but a vocation grounded in divine calling. “When history turns its pages, may it be said of you that you stood firm and did not falter, that you leaned not on the arm of flesh, but on the sustaining grace of God,” she added.
On behalf of the GBA, Mrs. Ghartey commended the judiciary for its dedication and pledged the Bar’s continued support in advancing reforms that strengthen justice delivery.
