The Kabaka Foundation Ghana has handed over a newly constructed Adolescent and Antenatal Care Department to the Ga East Municipal Hospital to expand access to quality maternal healthcare and provide a more supportive environment for pregnant teenagers.
The fully funded facility, named the Oseadeeyo Owiredu Wadie I Adolescent & Antenatal Care Department, is designed to improve maternal and adolescent healthcare services in the Ga East Municipality.
The facility comprises two main sections.
The Antenatal Care Department has four consulting rooms for pregnant women, alongside a pharmacy, ultrasound room and medical diagnostic laboratory.
The Adolescent Centre has two consulting rooms dedicated to antenatal and postnatal services for teenage mothers, who may experience stigma when receiving care alongside older women.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Medical Superintendent of the Ga East Municipal Hospital, Dr. Ayuba Seidu Abdulai, said the absence of a dedicated adolescent health facility in the municipality had compelled some young people to seek healthcare from unqualified providers.
He said the situation had contributed to serious health complications, describing the new facility as a timely intervention capable of saving lives.
The Adolescent Centre will provide counselling, reproductive health education and psychosocial support, while the Antenatal Unit is expected to strengthen access to safe, inclusive and patient-centred maternal healthcare.

The project was officially initiated with a sod-cutting ceremony on September 3, 2025.
According to Nana Owiredu Wadie I , the project forms part of the Kabaka Foundation’s healthcare interventions and is aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3, which seeks to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for people of all ages.
The handover also coincided with the birthday month of Nana Owiredu Wadie I, Nkosuohene of Kwahu Nkwatia and Chairman of the Kabaka Foundation.

The ceremony was chaired by the Chief of Haatso, Nii Amarh Sogbla IV.
Representatives of the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate, and the Wadie Family and other traditional rulers attended the event.
