Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has expressed strong support for integrating golf into Ghana’s national development agenda, emphasising its potential to promote environmental sustainability, discipline, and youth development.
The Minister made the remarks during a meeting on Wednesday, June 18, with the leadership of the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Ghana, led by its President, Hans De Beer. The visit aimed to explore avenues for collaboration in advancing golf as both a sport and an educational tool.
The engagement follows Minister Adams’ recent participation in the Celebrity Golf Tournament—an appearance he described as a reflection of his personal commitment to the growth of the sport in Ghana.
“Golf is rooted in discipline, strategy, and respect for nature. Every golfer becomes, in many ways, an advocate for the environment,” the Minister said. “It’s time we introduce golf in schools, not just as a sport, but as a tool for teaching young minds to value green spaces and healthy lifestyles.”

Minister Adams assured the PGA leadership of the government’s readiness to support grassroots development and environmentally conscious initiatives through golf. Key proposals from the meeting included:
- Introducing golf-in-schools programmes to nurture young talent and promote active lifestyles
- Launching climate awareness campaigns leveraging golf’s natural setting
- Promoting community engagement and regional capacity building through local golf development
“This marks the beginning of a long-term partnership to strengthen the presence of golf in Ghana and build a legacy that connects sport with sustainability,” Hon. Adams affirmed.
The PGA Ghana team expressed gratitude to the Ministry for its ongoing support of both amateur and professional golf. They also welcomed the government’s interest in using sport as a platform for broader social and environmental impact.
With renewed collaboration, golf in Ghana is poised to grow from a niche pastime into a mainstream sport that fosters youth development, environmental awareness, and tourism, one fairway at a time.
