Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has congratulated newly crowned WBO African Bantamweight Champion, Theophilus “Theo Lopez” Allotey, following his recent title victory and assured him of government support in his quest for a world championship.
Lopez stunned fans and critics alike with a commanding unanimous decision win over Daniel “The Emperor” Gorsh at the Battle of the Beasts boxing event held last Friday at the Bukom Boxing Arena. The victory earned him the prestigious WBO African Bantamweight title, cementing his position as one of Ghana’s brightest boxing prospects.
In a courtesy visit to the Ministry, Lopez and his coach presented the championship belt to the Minister; a moment Hon. Adams described as a proud milestone for both the boxer and Ghana.
“Today, I had the honour of receiving Theo and his coach following his outstanding victory. His triumph is not only a reflection of personal talent and discipline, but a beacon of Ghana’s growing global boxing potential,” the Minister said.
Hon. Adams praised the duo for their teamwork, strategy, and dedication, adding that the Ministry would provide the necessary support to help Lopez pursue a world title.
“As a Ministry, we will assist in mobilising resources and sponsorships, and explore serious training and camping opportunities for Theo. Our vision is clear: Ghana must become a global destination for boxing within the next three years,” he affirmed.

The Minister also emphasised that investing in athletes like Theo Lopez is essential to Ghana’s broader sports development agenda, which aims to harness local talent and elevate the country’s standing on the international stage.
With champions like Lopez leading the charge and strong institutional backing, Ghana’s boxing future looks brighter than ever.
