Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) leader Percival Kofi Akpaloo has been released from custody, eight days after his arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Akpaloo, who was taken into custody on September 3, 2025, faced allegations of multiple financial crimes, including fraud, money laundering, dissipation of public funds, and causing financial loss to the state.
His arrest, which took place at his Kumasi residence in a dawn operation by EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit, sparked widespread attention.
He was granted police bail with strict conditions, including a GH¢10 million bond and two sureties.
Akpaloo, however, remained in EOCO custody for several days as he worked to meet these requirements, until his release on Thursday, September 11.
Upon leaving EOCO’s premises in Accra, Akpaloo, speaking to journalists, alleged that his arrest was politically motivated, claiming it was linked to his recent criticism of the government.
EOCO confirmed that investigations into the alleged financial crimes are ongoing, even as Akpaloo now continues to cooperate with authorities while out on bail.
