Greenheart SE has presented three efficient carbonizers to women’s groups engaged in palm kernel oil production in Koforidua-Ada, Eastern Region.

This initiative is part of the Emission to Solution (#E2S) Project, implemented by Greenheart SE with support from the Kosmos Innovation Center Ghana and the Mastercard Foundation.

The #E2S Project aims to address Scope 1 carbon emissions in agricultural processing facilities by transforming agricultural waste into biochar, a carbon-negative product.

Koforidua Ada Palm kernel oil production site is known for high pollution of the environment due to smoke emitted through the traditional methods of the production.

The Emission to Solution innovative technology will reduce pollution by 80%, mitigating harmful emissions from waste burning while creating sustainable, bio-based solutions.

Caleb Lumor, Lead at Greenheart SE, outlined the project’s ambitious goals stating that in the first year, the initiative aims to convert 3,000 tonnes of agricultural waste into 600 kilos of biochar and 75,000 litres of crop protection lotion while reducing 2,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Additionally, the project plans to assist 5,000 farmers in its initial phase.

” In the long term within 5 years we actually want to avoid over 1 million tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere and also assist 120,000 farmers in the next five years. We launched this product to lower risk of climate change on our farmers” said Caleb Lumor.

Biochar, the key output of this technology, offers multiple benefits, including improving soil health, raising soil pH, remediating polluted soils, sequestering carbon, and serving as a natural pest control agent.

These features make it a valuable resource for farmers, enhancing both productivity and environmental sustainability.

Benjamin Gyan-Kesse, Executive Director of the Kosmos Innovation Center, highlighted the investment of $10,000 in the project, emphasizing its potential to drive climate resilience and circularity in Ghana’s agricultural sector.

He noted that the deployment of carbonizers marks a significant step forward in decarbonizing agribusiness operations and promoting sustainable practices.
