The Kumasi High Court has convicted and sentenced 36-year-old Dominic Afriyie, also known as “GH,” to 120 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for robbery, in addition to a life sentence for murder.
Presided over by Justice Abdul Razak, the court found Afriyie guilty of attacking and killing pharmacist and building contractor, Michael Dela Agbo Klu, during a robbery at Atasemanso in Kumasi on November 20, 2021. The convict forcibly entered the residence of Mr. Klu and his family, stole two mobile phones, an ASUS Zenbook laptop, and GH¢1,500, before fatally shooting the 43-year-old homeowner.
A breakthrough in the case came on December 31, 2021, when police arrested Afriyie and three others in a Toyota Corolla following intelligence about a planned robbery in the same area. A search of the vehicle uncovered two pistols and two single-barrel shotguns. Investigations confirmed that Afriyie had acted alone in the earlier Atasemanso robbery and murder.

Despite pleading not guilty, Afriyie was found guilty by a seven-member jury after a full trial. He has since been handed the combined sentence.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command, in a statement signed by DSP Godwin Ahianyo, reassured the public of their ongoing commitment to fighting crime and maintaining safety in the region.
