Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has announced his resignation as President of the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B) after being appointed as the 2nd Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The decision also underscores the increasing responsibilities he faces in his ongoing role as President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Okraku, who has served WAFU B with distinction, stated that although it has been a tremendous honour to lead the region, the growing demands of his roles at both the continental and national levels now require his undivided focus.
He stressed the importance of fully committing to every position he holds, noting that the expanding scope of his responsibilities has made it increasingly challenging to meet that standard.
“In the next few days, I will commence the process of handing over my role as WAFU Zone B President to a new leader who, I am sure, will continue the good work we have started in the group; including maintaining the peace we are experiencing in the Zone while continuing to work to build unity within the region.
During Okraku’s tenure, WAFU B experienced renewed development and regional cooperation, highlighted by the relocation of its Secretariat and strategic initiatives, while he also strengthened collaboration among member associations and upheld the Zone’s influence in African football governance.
Okraku expressed his gratitude to the staff at the WAFU B Headquarters for their dedication and professionalism, urging them to continue championing the organization’s values and vision with steadfast commitment
“As I leave the role of being your President, let me assure you that I will always remain a true disciple of the Zone. Thank you for the awesome experience of leading the Zone, and I wish us all well in our future endeavours!”
His departure opens the door for new leadership to guide WAFU Zone B into its next chapter of growth, building upon the foundations and partnerships established during Okraku’s tenure.
