The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has published a list of 907 small-scale mining licenses that risk being revoked as part of efforts to sanitise Ghana’s mining sector.
The move follows a review of 1,278 existing licenses conducted by the Ministry. Out of the total reviewed, 316 licenses were cleared of any outstanding issues, while 962 were found to contain various irregularities. Fifty-five of those with irregularities have already been revoked.
According to a report submitted to the Sector Minister, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, on Monday, July 21, 2025, the irregularities included documentation gaps, procedural anomalies, and data quality issues.
The remaining 907 license holders are expected to take immediate steps to address the issues identified before the revocation deadline.
To facilitate this process, a three-member committee has been established to manage all correspondence and petitions concerning the irregularities, allowing for corrections and amendments where necessary.
In a related development, the Ministry has also announced plans to begin a similar review of large-scale mining licenses to address challenges in that sector.
The full list of the 907 small-scale mining licenses facing potential revocation has been made available for public access.
