Lawrence Ati Zigi, Ghana’s star shot-stopper, has reached a major milestone in his career, clocking his 200th appearance for Swiss Super League side FC St. Gallen. Having joined the club on January 16, 2020, with a two-and-a-half-year contract, Zigi made an immediate impact, debuting in a 3–1 victory over FC Lugano just ten days later on January 26, 2020.

Zigi’s early brilliance between the posts didn’t go unnoticed, earning him an extended two-year contract, which saw him stay at FC St. Gallen until 2025. His stellar performances continued to impress, and in May 2024, the club rewarded him with another contract extension, this time keeping him at the club until 2027. His teammates affectionately call him “The Wall” due to his agility, composure, and commanding presence in goal.

A key figure in FC St. Gallen’s success, Zigi was instrumental in helping the club qualify for the Europa Conference League for the first time in over a decade. His heroics were pivotal in their qualification campaign, with a memorable penalty shootout victory over Trabzonspor in the second leg of the qualifiers, where his sharp reflexes and leadership in the box stood out.

Throughout his time at the club, Zigi has cemented his reputation as one of the Swiss Super League’s finest goalkeepers. In the 2022/23 season, he was named the Best Goalkeeper of the first half of the season, making 103 saves from 146 shots faced and keeping three clean sheets across 30 league appearances. His consistency earned him five appearances in the Swiss League’s Team of the Week.
In the 2024/25 season, Zigi continues to shine, recording an impressive 14 saves and keeping six clean sheets. The first half of the season for St.Gallen, Zigi made 37 Super League appearances and kept six clean sheets.

His performances in both the Swiss Super League and the Europa Conference League have only strengthened his standing as one of the toughest goalkeepers in Europe to break down.
He has kept four Super League clean sheets this term in the second half of the season.
As Zigi celebrates his 200th career appearance, his unwavering dedication and passion for the game signal that his best years are still ahead. With leadership and composure at the heart of his game, Zigi remains a key figure for FC St. Gallen and a crucial player for both club and country.
