New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team Member Lawuratu Musah-Saaka has criticised the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for repeatedly referring to the previous government in response to concerns about its performance, despite its promise to reset the country and improve governance.
Speaking to Arafat Musah on Morning Starr on Starr FM, she said it was disappointing that the NDC, which had strongly criticised the previous administration while in opposition, continued to refer to its predecessor rather than take responsibility for its own record in government.
According to her, the NDC campaigned on a promise to do things differently and improve the country’s governance, making its continued references to the previous administration a source of concern.
“The NDC now in government promised to do better and promised to reset this country. So it is quite sad and shameful when, at every turn, they want to reference the past government,” she said.
Mrs Saaka recalled the language used by the NDC to condemn the previous government, noting that its members had described the administration as the most corrupt and used harsh expressions to criticise the conduct of its appointees.
She questioned the contrast between the party’s posture in opposition and its current response to issues arising under its administration.
She argued that a government that promised to reset the country should be prepared to account for its own decisions and actions instead of repeatedly invoking the shortcomings of its predecessor.
Mrs Saaka insisted that the NDC must be held to the same standards of accountability it demanded of the previous government, arguing that its promise to reset the country should be reflected in its conduct in office.
She maintained that the governing party could not continue to condemn its predecessor while avoiding scrutiny of its own performance, stressing that Ghanaians deserve answers and accountability from a government that promised to do better.
