The leadership of the Health Committee of Parliament has locked horns over the feasibility of the government’s Agenda 111 project.
The government is embarking on a project to build 111 hospitals across the country following President Akufo-Addo’s announcement of the project during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The deadline for the projects have however been missed. Former President Mahama during his Building Ghana Tour questioned the feasibility of the project describing it as overly ambitious.
Addressing the media in parliament Chairman of the Health Committee Dr. Ayew Afriye questioned the basis for the assertion of the former President.
According to him the NDC also promised to construct 88 hospitals in its 2020 manifesto and thus the argument of the party’s flagbearer is untenable.
The Effiduase-Asokore MP argued it will be phenomenal even if the government completes 20% of the Agenda 111 projects.
But in a sharp rebuttal ranking member for the Committee Kwabena Mintah Akandoh rubbished the claims of his chairman.
According to him, President Akufo-Addo himself described the project as overly ambitious.
The Juaboso MP further accused the Nana Addo administration of deception stating many of the projects will not see the light of day before the President leaves office.
