Security analyst, Dr. Adam Bonaa has condemned the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) for arresting two employees of NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu allegedly over the leaked audio tape plotting to oust the IGP.
The State’s investigative body on Thursday July 20, 2023, picked up the receptionist and personal aide to Bugri Naabu.
According to Bugri Naabu, his employees, personal assistant S.K and Receptionist called Akua on Thursday morning took the lead to the office but when he arrived at the office, he realized they were all absent.
In an interview with Kumasi based Oyerepa FM, he said his checks have established that the two workers have been detained at the Accra Regional Branch of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) at Kawukudi Junction.
The NPP founding member said he plans to go with his lawyers to the NIB office to enquire why his staff have been detained.
There have been allegations and speculations linking Mr Bugri Naabu to the leaked tape in which there was an alleged plot to have the IGP removed.
But the NPP stalwart has vehemently denied being responsible for the leaked tape and not taking part in the plot.
“I don’t know who did the recording, but they cannot do that. We don’t have any recordings here. My phone can record, why should I get a tape before I can record? All these are iPhones. Even though I don’t know how to hold it, I believe they can do recording work,” he said.
But commenting on the arrest on Starr Today on Starr FM, Dr. Adam Bonaa said there’s no basis for the arrest adding that the big fishes concerned with the case must rather be arrested.
“…The substance is in the tape of which Bugri Naabu has now determined that it was done in his office. The people who are alleged to have spoken in the tape they are people who are around so why will anybody arrest some other persons instead of those who are on the tape. Their arrest is completely wrong, I don’t see any basis. I think these are whistleblowers, they should rather pick up Bugri Naabu and the two Police officers.”
