First Lady of Ghana, Lordina Mahama, has reaffirmed her commitment to advancing the health, education, and economic empowerment of women and children during the 30th Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Speaking at the event, she highlighted her support for OAFLAD’s #BuildingResilience campaign. “When women and children are healthy, families are stronger and nations thrive,” she said, underscoring the link between well-being and national development.
Lordina Mahama also detailed the work of the Lordina Foundation, which provides free health screenings and treatment to thousands of women, children, and the elderly.
The Foundation, she said, has established three modern maternity and children’s wards at Bole District Hospital, Nkoranza Municipal Hospital, and Bodom Health Centre, with a fourth facility nearing completion in Asukawkaw.
Looking ahead to 2026, the First Lady said she will continue to empower women entrepreneurs, aligning with government initiatives such as the 24-Hour Economy and the new Women’s Development Bank.
“When we empower a woman economically, we empower an entire family and uplift an entire community,” she emphasized.
She also highlighted her support for education, noting that the Lordina Foundation is sponsoring 40 underprivileged Junior High School girls through the Merck Foundation’s ‘Educating Linda’ Scholarship Programme.
“Every girl we support becomes a leader, a change-maker, and a nation-builder,” she said.
Through her efforts, Lordina Mahama continues to champion initiatives that aim to strengthen families, communities, and the nation by empowering women and children across Ghana.
