President John Dramani Mahama and his wife, Lordina Mahama, on Tuesday, October 28, visited the family of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, to offer their condolences following her passing.
During the visit, President Mahama described the late Nana Konadu as a “mother of the nation,” praising her lifelong dedication to women’s empowerment and political leadership.

He announced that the government would organize a befitting state funeral in her honour.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings passed away at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital after a short illness.

A trailblazer in Ghana’s political and social development, she founded the 31st December Women’s Movement in 1982 — a platform that empowered thousands of women through education, entrepreneurship, and advocacy.

She also served as Vice Chairperson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) before founding the National Democratic Party (NDP) in 2012, later contesting the 2016 presidential election.

The late former First Lady was married to ex-President Jerry John Rawlings, and together they had four children — Zanetor, Yaa Asantewaa, Amina, and Kimathi.
