President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed government’s commitment to completing the long-delayed La General Hospital, assuring residents of La and the wider public that the facility will be ready for commissioning by November 2027.
The President gave the assurance after inspecting ongoing works at the project site in the La Dade-Kotopon Municipality on Friday, April 24, 2026.
According to him, contractors had provided firm guarantees that the hospital would be delivered on schedule, stressing that government would ensure the necessary support to meet the deadline.
Backing the President’s position, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh disclosed that government has so far paid GH¢60 million to the contractor, with plans underway to release additional funds to sustain steady progress.
He noted that the total contract sum for the project stands at €50 million.
The La General Hospital project has faced significant delays over the years following the demolition of the old facility in 2020 as part of plans to redevelop it into a modern healthcare centre.
Since then, residents in the La Dade-Kotopon area have had to rely on alternative health facilities, raising concerns about access to quality healthcare.
The new hospital, once completed, is expected to ease pressure on major facilities in Accra and improve healthcare delivery in the municipality.
