President John Dramani Mahama has expressed satisfaction with the accelerated pace of work on the Ofankor–Nsawam portion of the Accra–Kumasi highway following government intervention to clear long-standing payment arrears.
The President revisited the site exactly 90 days after his previous tour, which was prompted by public frustration over severe delays. He recounted that the project had stalled due to unresolved demolitions and prolonged non-payment for work done.
According to him, he directed the Ministers of Roads and Finance to resolve the issue, leading to the release of over **$70 million** to the contractor. The renewed funding has significantly improved progress.
Mahama told journalists he was “quite impressed with the progress that has been made,” adding that although the contractor earlier estimated completion by July 2026, “if I look at the progress being made, I’m sure that by April next year… you’ll be able to finish this road.”
He commended both the contractor and consultants and encouraged them to sustain the momentum to ensure early completion.
The President said finishing the project ahead of schedule would deliver major relief to commuters on the Accra–Nsawam–Kumasi corridor, which remains one of the country’s busiest routes.
