President John Dramani Mahama has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Ghanaian music legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Sunday morning, July 27, the President described the celebrated highlife icon as a national treasure whose music provided the “soundtrack to our lives.”
“Lumba’s unmatched musical genius carried us through various phases of life,” President Mahama wrote. “The beats to his memorable songs may have died down, but his enduring legacy will echo through the ages.”
He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones on behalf of the Government of Ghana, noting that the country had suffered an “irreplaceable loss.”

The President’s tribute comes a day after the Fosu family officially announced Daddy Lumba’s death in a statement, disclosing that he passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness.
Daddy Lumba was one of Ghana’s most influential musicians, with a career spanning decades and an extensive catalog of timeless songs that resonated across generations.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
