Majority leader rejects sellout allegations against Haruna’s team

Majority leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has rejected allegations against the out-gone minority leaders that they were in bed with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This comes on the back of the new minority leadership taking office from Haruna Iddrisu’s team.

National Chairman of the opposition NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah in explaining rationale behind the shakeup in the party’s front bench to supporters in the UK among other reasons mentioned lack of cooperation with the speaker.

However, the Suame MP in addressing the house has urged other political parties to take a cue from the troubles that surrounded the changes in the NDC and amend their constitutions accordingly.

“Let me state emphatically and unambiguously that no such thing happened. I had developed a very harmonious working relationship with them but people then read meanings into it.

“The business of the Minority Leader is to assist the Majority Leader in facilitating the business of the government and if someone does that, it shouldn’t be perceived as selling out to the majority,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Haruna Iddrisu team has assured Ato Forson and his team of their support as they take over leadership of the Minority in Parliament.

In a statement signed by the former deputy minority leader, James Klutse Avedzi thanked the Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress and the former President John Mahama for resolving the challenges that engulfed the Party in Parliament after the announcement of leadership changes in Parliament.

“We the former leaders made up of Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, the former Minority Leader, Hon. James Klutse Avedzi, Deputy Minority Leader and Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, Minority Chief Whip assured the Council of Elders of the Party when we met them on Tuesday 17th January 2023, that we will abide by their resolution of the challenges.

“This assurance was disclosed to the Council when Hon. Haruna Iddrisu asked me to sum up our position on the matter. Thank you very much Council of Elders and H. E. John Dramani Mahama. We want to assure the new minority leadership of our full support in the interest of the Party as we prepare to rustle power from the insensitive NPP in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections,” Mr. Avedzi stated.

He continued: “The NDC remains the only hope for the good people of Ghana so we shall remain united to realize the hope of Ghanaians.”
