A 23-year-old man, Felix Agbodzi, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for defiling a 12-year-old girl.
The conviction follows an investigation by the Volta North Regional Police Command into an incident that occurred at Gbi-Akplamafu in the Volta Region.
According to a statement from the Police, Agbodzi lured the young victim to his residence, where he subjected her to sexual abuse.
Following his arrest on April 13, 2026, he was arraigned before the court the following day.
Presiding over the case, His Honour Lambert Yiringabaque Kariba heard the charges brought under section 101(2) of the Criminal Offences Act of Ghana, 1960 (Act 29).
Agbodzi pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and was subsequently handed the seven-year custodial sentence.
The Police Statement signed by the Public Relations Officer for the Volta North Region, Inspector Felix Kwao, urged the public to remain vigilant and proactive in protecting children.
”The Volta North Regional Police Command urges the members of the public not to hesitate in reporting defilement and related criminal offences,” the statement read.
The Command further warned that individuals found engaging in such criminal acts will be pursued and made to face the “full rigours of the law.”
