The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has called on President John Mahama to immediately revoke the appointment of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Free Zones Board (GFZB), Madam Mary Ewusi, over comments directed at the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye.
Apostle Nyamekye during the presentation of the “State of the Church” address delivered by Apostle at the 48th General Assembly of the Church lamented the devastating impact of illegal mining (galamsey) on Ghana’s water bodies, noting that the pollution is now hindering the church’s traditional river baptisms.
The Man of God had indicated that the church was partnering with the state to solve the problem.
Reacting to this statement which had since gone viral, the CEO of the GFZB warned Apostle Nyamekye to desist from making comments bothering galamsey, adding that she will deal with him if he repeats the comments about galamsey.
In a strongly worded statement, Henry Nana Boakye described Madam Ewusi’s reaction as a “shocking twist” and a “distasteful attack” on a revered religious leader.
According to the NPP Organiser, the CEO told Apostle Nyamekye to “shut up or face the consequences.”
Boakye argued that these comments are not isolated but represent a broader strategy by the current administration.
“It is obviously not an isolated reaction but yet another clear indication of the state-sanctioned scheme by John Mahama and his henchmen to silence all of the genuine voices of reason in our Country,” Nana B stated.
Nana B has subsequently demanded swift action from the Presidency and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to rectify the situation.
He has since demanded the urgent revocation of Madam Mary Ewusi’s appointment as CEO of the Ghana Free Zones Board and an unqualified apology from President Mahama and the NDC leadership to Apostle Eric Nyamekye and the Church of Pentecost.
Madam Mary Ewusi has since apologised.
Nana B asserted that the opposition and the public will not be intimidated into silence regarding the government’s performance.
“President Mahama must remember that he will never be able to gag well-meaning Ghanaians from expressing their disappointment with the many broken promises by his government,” Boakye added, vowing that the NPP would continue to hold the administration accountable for the “good of the ordinary Ghanaian.”
