The remains of the two Muslim victims of the helicopter crash, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed, have been laid to rest at the Military Cemetery in La, following a solemn state ceremony at the forecourt of the State House on Sunday, August 10.

The two, who perished alongside six others in the August 6 Ghana Air Force helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region, were given full Islamic rites after forensic examinations in South Africa confirmed their identities.

The janazah prayer, led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, drew hundreds of mourners including President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, government officials, political leaders, chiefs, and sympathisers.

Businessman Ibrahim Mahama pledged to settle any debts the deceased might have owed, a symbolic gesture rooted in Islamic tradition.

In a dignified procession, two pallbearer parties of the Ghana Armed Forces escorted the coffins from the State House to the Military Cemetery, where interment was conducted in accordance with Islamic customs.

President Mahama, visibly moved, said “today is not a good day for talking” and pledged to continue the work the late officials had started, ensuring their legacies endure.

The National Chief Imam praised the deceased as exemplary servants of both faith and country, urging Ghanaians to follow their example.

The crash, which claimed eight lives, also took that of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The tragedy has left the nation united in grief over the loss of these public servants.
