Morocco’s Atlas Lions have stormed into the AFCON 2025 final, defeating Nigeria’s Super Eagles 4-2 on penalties in Rabat after a tense, goalless semi-final.
The hosts’ victory was powered by goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, who denied Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi in the shootout.
Youssef En-Nessyri converted the decisive penalty, sending his low strike into the corner past Stanley Nwabali and sparking wild celebrations among home fans.
The win marks Morocco’s first AFCON final appearance in 22 years and keeps their hopes alive for a first continental title since 1976. Nigeria, despite creating chances, fell short at the crucial moment.
The Atlas Lions will now clash with Senegal in the “Lions Derby” on Sunday, January 18, at Stade Prince Moulay Abdullah for a shot at the AFCON crown.
