Petrol, diesel and LPG prices to drop again effective January 16 – COMAC

Petrol, diesel, and LPG prices in Ghana are set to decline again from January 16, driven by a stronger cedi and falling international fuel costs.

Petrol, diesel and LPG prices are set to fall for a second straight pricing window from January 16 to 31, 2026, following a strong appreciation of the Ghana cedi and continued declines in international refined petroleum product prices, the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) has projected.

According to COMAC’s latest price outlook, petrol prices are expected to drop by between 1.26% and 2.30%, diesel by 1.97% to 2.10%, while LPG could record the sharpest reduction of between 3.10% and 5.09%.

“Petrol, diesel, and LPG ex-pump prices are projected for a second consecutive drop by 1.26%–2.30%, 1.97%–2.10%, and 3.10%–5.09% respectively. These reductions are driven by the appreciation of the Ghana cedi and the decline in international petroleum product prices,” COMAC stated.

The chamber noted that while crude oil prices have edged up in the new year—from about 61.74 to 62.75 dollars per barrel—due to political unrest in an OPEC member state and instability in Venezuela, finished petroleum products have continued to trend downward on the international market.

Over the review period, petrol prices fell by 1.07%, diesel by 0.68% and LPG by 3.40%.

COMAC also pointed to the strong performance of the cedi, which appreciated from GH¢11.52 to GH¢10.90 against the US dollar for the January 16 pricing window, representing a gain of about 5.71%.

Databank Research has indicated that near-term foreign exchange pressures are likely to remain contained, as the market anticipates a gradual release of the US$1 billion earmarked for January 2026 under the FX Intermediation Programme.

Based on the projections, petrol is expected to sell around GH¢11.75 per litre on a cash basis, diesel at about GH¢12.45 per litre, and LPG at roughly GH¢12.30 per kilogram. Lower floor prices have also been projected across key products, reinforcing expectations of relief for consumers at the pumps.

The projections are based on average ex-refinery prices and data from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).
