A new youth group of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region has joined a growing protest among some supporters calling on the regional chairman, Mohammad Samba, to step down from his position and move back to his home region to contest for the said position following the creation of new regions.

Four other officers have also been asked by the group to resign from their positions as regional executives and vie for same in their respective regions as they are longer members of the Northern Region.

They include, the Regional Secretary, Sulley Sambian, Communication Director, Mohammed Issah, Deputy Secretary, Haruna Iddrisu, Deputy Nasara Coordinator, Hajia Rabi Anyass.

The Regional Chairman and Secretary are members of the new North East Region. They are therefore being asked to vacate their positions and relocate to vie for positions in the North East region.

The Regional Communication Director, Mohammed Issah and the Deputy Secretary, Haruna Iddrisu, now fall under the Savannah Region

The NPP Northern Youth at a press conference on Monday accused the Regional Chairman Mr Samba, his Secretary and Communication Director of running a crusade to be maintained in the northern region for the rest of their term in office as regional officers.

The group said the attempt by them to hang onto their positions was a clear sign of disrespect to the President, Vice President and to the National officers of the NPP.

In a statement read by the spokesman, Mohammad Ibrahim, the group further said: “We are also drawing the attention of H.E President Nana Akufo-Addo and the National officers of our dear party to the current activities of the Northern regional chairman of NPP Mr Samba who is seen to be building an empire that would soon become a monster within the party in the region.”

Mr Ibrahim said in the statement “the chairman has succeeded in dividing the party into two just for his personal interest through unnecessary splashing of money all over in the name of maintaining his office for the rest of his term in Northern region

“And the question we are asking him is, with all the number of MPs, the Vice President as well as other government appointees from the North East region, what is scaring him and the regional secretary from going back to the newly created north east region to assist in administrating the party there? Or is that, he has no confidence in Dr Bawumia or Hajia Alima Mahama?

“…We all know the efforts of the President in restoring peace to our part, we are privileged to announce that, the current regional chairman is bent on destroying all what the President has done for us so far as he continues to stay in the northern region.”

The group concluded by pledging support to all eight leaders in the party and reiterate their commitment to work tirelessly to ensure a resounding victory for the party.
