The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has seized over 2.3 tonnes of suspected cannabis during an anti-drug operation at Gbi-Wegbe in the Volta Region.
The seizure was made at Gbi-Wegbe, a community near Hohoe in the Volta Region, following what the Commission described as an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected drug trafficking activities in the area.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of Sunday, May 31, forms part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on the production, trafficking, and distribution of illegal narcotics across the country.
According to NACOC, officers uncovered and confiscated 2,372.38 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis after raiding a farmhouse and warehouse believed to have been used as a storage facility for illegal narcotics.
In a statement shared on its Facebook page on Monday, June 1, NACOC said the raid was conducted after intelligence gathering pointed investigators to the facility, which was allegedly being used to stockpile large quantities of cannabis.
“Investigations are currently underway to identify and apprehend individual connected to the illegal operation ; the statement said.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to the nation to fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse, stressing its efforts to tackle substance abuse and illegal related offenses and protect the nation.
