Even before the Electoral Commission completes the collation and announcement of official results; the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated it is “home and dry” with 185 constituencies constituting at least a two-thirds majority in the next parliament.

Describing the feat as historic, the General Secretary of the NDC, Fiifi Kwetey, expressed excitement that the party has won seats it has never been able to secure in any competitive election in the country.

“The green wave that has swept across the country has resulted in winning seats we have never won in our history since 1996. This demonstrates how special the NDC is to Ghanaians,” he commended. He indicated that the new seats the NDC has annexed include Ayawaso Central, Okaikoi South, Tema West, and Dome Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region.

In the Central Region, Fiifi Kwetey mentioned that the party has, for the first time, captured wutu Senya East; Assin Central; Sekondi, Kwesimintsim, Asikado Katan, Takoradi, Takwa Nsuayem, Sunyani East, Sunyani West, Domaa East, Domaa Central, Asutifi North, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Akuapim South, and Lower West Akim.

Enumerating the number of first-time seats in the Ashanti Region, he announced that the party had secured Adansi Asokwa, Ahafo Ano South East, and Obuasi East.

Provisional Regional Breakdown

Fiifi Kwetey further indicated that per data available to the NDC; this green wave had spread massively, with the Volta Region annexing 18 out of 18 seats, Upper East 15 out of 15, and 11 seats in Upper West.

He noted that the party had secured 6 out of 7 seats in the Savanna Region, 11 out of 18 in Northern Region, 15 out of 17 in Western Region, and 3 out of 6 in North East.

He stated that the NDC had taken 18 out of 23 seats in the Central Region, 11 out of 12 in Bono Region, and 27 out of 34 in Greater Accra, with hopes of securing one more seat.

Additionally, he mentioned that the NDC had turned green with 1 out of 8 seats in Western North, ten seats in Bono East, and eight in Ashanti Region.

Fiifi Kwetey assured that the NDC will provide Ghanaians with a responsible majority that will prioritize their interests.

He urged all party agents in constituencies with contested results to act responsibly, eschew violence, and monitor the progression of figures from pink sheets.
