New Edubiase Chief Lauds NPP for Free SHS policy

Nana Oduro Panin Burikuran, Chief of New Edubiase, has strongly endorsed the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy introduced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, calling it the most significant intervention in Ghana’s education sector.

According to the Chief, the policy has lifted a heavy financial burden off parents and guardians and must be protected from any potential cancellation by future governments.

He made these remarks during a visit by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP Vice Presidential Candidate, to the New Edubiase Palace as part of his campaign tour of New Edubiase, Obuasi East, and Obuasi West.

NPP’s Achievements Highlighted in New Edubiase

During his campaign in the New Edubiase Constituency, Dr. Prempeh outlined the NPP’s track record, emphasizing the party’s commitment to the prosperity and progress of Ghana.

Key accomplishments include expanding access to secondary education for 5.7 million young adults through the Free SHS and TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) policies, providing meals to over 4 million children under the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), and maintaining a reliable power supply for nearly eight years.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, has also proposed bold solutions for the future, a sharp contrast to what the NPP claims is the lack of clear direction from its opponents.

The warm reception received in New Edubiase reflects growing confidence in the NPP, with many in the constituency expected to support the party’s parliamentary candidate, George Oduro.

Chief Nana Oduro emphasized that the best way to ensure the Free SHS policy remains in place is by keeping the NPP in power.
He shared how the initiative had benefited his own household and underscored the importance of its continuation to ensure more Ghanaians can enjoy its benefits. He further praised the government for developmental projects in the area, notably in road construction and the improvement of school and hospital infrastructure.

Dr. Prempeh Calls for Massive Support

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, while thanking the Chief and the people of New Edubiase for their warm welcome, urged them to vote massively for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and George Oduro to help the NPP reclaim the New Edubiase parliamentary seat, which the party lost in the last election.

Strong Support in Obuasi

Dr. Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, wrapped up his constituency-focused campaign with visits to Obuasi East and West, where he rallied support for the party’s flagbearer and parliamentary candidates, Dr. Patrick Boakye-Yiadom (Obuasi East) and Kweku Kwarteng (Obuasi West).
The overwhelming support from the residents sent a clear message of solidarity for Dr. Bawumia, whom they believe to be the most reliable leader for Ghana’s future.

Addressing a large crowd at a campaign rally in Obuasi, NAPO drew a sharp contrast between the NPP’s achievements and the NDC’s failures.

He pointed to the collapse of AngloGold Ashanti during the NDC’s tenure, their neglect of critical infrastructure projects, and failure to harness Obuasi’s gold resources for the benefit of the local community, which left the area impoverished.

In contrast, he highlighted the NPP’s efforts in revitalizing AngloGold Ashanti and implementing transformative projects that have revitalized the local economy.

With strong support in both New Edubiase and Obuasi, the NPP is confident of its chances in the upcoming elections.
Dr. Prempeh called on the people of the Ashanti Region to continue their support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP to ensure continued development and the preservation of key policies like Free SHS.
