The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a strong condemnation of what it describes as a rising wave of politically motivated intimidation and harassment of its members under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
In a press statement released today and signed by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party alleged that state security agencies were being weaponized to silence opposition voices, thereby undermining Ghana’s democracy and the rule of law.
The party cited the arrest of Mr. Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly known as “Adenta Kumi,” as a prime example of what it called “state-sponsored persecution.” According to the NPP, Mr. Kumi was forcibly arrested at around 7:00 a.m. at his residence by heavily armed operatives believed to be from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). The party claimed that six of the arresting officers wore masks and carried AK-47 rifles.
“This is clearly linked to Mr. Kumi’s recent petition to President John Dramani Mahama, requesting the dissolution of the committee reviewing petitions for the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo,” the statement alleged, describing the arrest as an attempt to intimidate a whistleblower and obstruct justice.
In a separate incident, the party expressed concern over what it called a disturbing move by armed men who allegedly stormed the residence of Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman. The visit is said to be linked to an earlier CID summons issued on May 19, 2025. According to the party, Mr. Antwi-Boasiako had communicated his unavailability for the original date due to medical reasons and had indicated his willingness to appear on May 26.
The NPP described the incident as “nothing short of political harassment,” questioning the rationale behind the forceful visit despite ongoing communication between the Chairman and law enforcement.

“These developments represent a calculated pattern of abuse of state power designed to weaken opposition voices and erode the democratic fabric of our nation,” the statement said. It called on Ghanaians and advocates of democracy to speak out against what it described as political persecution by the NDC government.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to defending democratic accountability and urged the state to uphold the principles of transparency, justice, and equal protection under the law.
