The Chief Executive Officer of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Samuel Awuku has been declared the unopposed candidate in the New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) parliamentary primaries for the Akuapem North constituency.

The incumbent Member of Parliament, Ama Dokua Asiamah, opted not to seek reelection but instead entered the Okaikoi North parliamentary primaries.

A statement released on November 30, 2023, by Eastern Regional Chairman of NPP, Jeffrey Konadu explained that Mr. Sammy Awuku was the sole candidate who filed a nomination form before the closing deadline.

In adherence to the regulations governing the primaries, the Regional Chairman directed Akuapem North constituency executives to organize an extraordinary delegates conference for the acclamation of Sammy Awuku on Saturday, December 2, 2023.

Expressing his intentions on Facebook, Sammy Awuku stated that his decision to contest the parliamentary seat was in response to calls from chiefs, faith-based groups, and constituents.

“After several months of consultations and in response to the call from the chiefs, faith-based groups and people from the Akuapem North Constituency, I have picked and filed my nominations to contest for the parliamentary seat of the constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party”.

He sees this opportunity as a means to contribute to the growth and development of Akuapem North, emphasizing that his candidacy is a call to service.

“I believe this gives me the opportunity to contribute towards the growth and development of the area. It will be an honour to represent the interests, concerns and aspirations of the constituents. This is a call to service”.

Political observers anticipate that Sammy Awuku, backed by substantial support within the constituency, is poised to make history with unprecedented vote margins in the upcoming 2024 elections.
