Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics expresses surprise in the unexpected shift in voter support in the Volta Region during the NPP presidential primaries, where Dr. Bryan Acheampong captured votes that had previously been expected for Kennedy Agyapong.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Monday, February 2, Mussa Dankwa explained that while pre-election models projected steady support for Kennedy, a significant number of undecided delegates and those initially not disclosing their votes shifted to Bryan.
“Even though we had about 32% of the delegates saying they were not disclosed… apparently those not disclosed were actually for Brian. So this was probably one of the biggest shock for me,” he said.
He noted the collapse of Kennedy’s support in the last weeks of the campaign. “To the extent that he did not get any of the not disclosed from what we saw. He actually lost votes among those people. We were hoping he was going to get 3% of the not disclosing delegates. He ended up losing 2%. And Bryan took everything from him and then increased his margin quite significantly.”

This voter movement, Mussa Dankwa said, was likely influenced by strategic decisions and campaign messaging in the final stages.
The election, held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, saw a massive turnout of delegates across the country, with over 196,000 votes cast at more than 300 polling centres.
Out of 195,901 valid votes cast, Bawumia secured 110,643 votes (56.48%). His rivals drew substantial support: Kennedy Ohene Agyapong received 46,554 votes (23.76%), Dr. Bryan Acheampong got 36,303 votes (18.53%), Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum collected 1,999 votes (1.02%), and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong received 402 votes (0.21%). There were also 561 rejected ballots.
