Political aide to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kwesi Botchway Jnr., has emphasized that while all five presidential aspirants are in good standing with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), delegates see Bawumia as the strongest choice to lead the party to victory.
The NPP is gearing up for its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, as delegates nationwide prepare to elect the party’s flagbearer.
Other notable aspirants include former Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, and former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Monday, January 19, Botchway stated, “All five presidential aspirants are NPP members in good standing, but if the party wants power in 2028, the best man for the job is Dr. Bawumia.”
He further explained the delegates’ focus on competency over personal background. “The good people of our party know what they want. They want a candidate who can take the fight to the NDC. They want a candidate who can hold the government accountable.”
Botchway also noted that the primaries are centered on selecting the most capable leader rather than personality or lineage, highlighting that the choice reflects strategic planning for the 2028 general elections.
