NPP Sets Up 9-Member Committee to Review Recommendations in Prof. Mike Oquaye Report

The largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set up a nine-member committee to review recommendations made in the Professor Michael Oquaye-led Elections Review Committee report.

The Oquaye Committee was tasked with investigating the reasons behind the party’s humiliating loss in the December 7 general elections.

Addressing the media after receiving the report, the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, disclosed that the newly constituted nine-member committee would focus on revising the party’s constitution to address gaps identified in the Oquaye report.

“The National Council accepted the report, but there are several steps we need to take as a party. We need to sit down and deliberate on the report. There will be a need for a constitutional amendment. So, based on that, the National Council has constituted a nine-member committee to look at Prof. Mike Oquaye’s report, where issues of proposal or amendment have to be made to our Constitution,” he stated.

According to him, although the report had just been received, the party would in due course communicate its contents and recommendations to the grassroots and the general public.

“We want the media and Ghanaians to know that we have just received the report today, April 16. We’re yet to go into details as to what the report entails. In the coming days, whatever we have to communicate to our people, we will do so,” he added.

The General Secretary also cautioned party members against making premature or speculative public comments about the contents of the report.

Several prominent figures in the party were in attendance today, including former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and other key party stalwarts.
