In a heartfelt demonstration of compassion and community service, Oasis International School, located at 5th Avenue, Greda Estates (Teshie-Nungua), joined forces with the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) and former GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, for a special outreach visit to the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons.
The initiative, which came together in just a few days, was met with immediate support from the Board, Management, and broader school community. When Christine-Marie Nyantakyi, CEO of Oasis International School, received the call for collaboration on the project, she immediately held discussions with the Board and Management of Oasis International School, and the school responded without hesitation.
“Our school is built on the core value of love — love for our learners, our teachers, and the wider community,” said Mr. Theodore Dowuona-Hyde (M.Ed, BMS), Principal of Oasis International School. “Supporting this outreach felt like a natural extension of that mission.”
With the support of the school’s leadership team, including Vice Principal Mr. Gideon Ashitey, Oasis International School swiftly donated ten 50kg bags of rice and 100 bags of sachet water to the inmates — a contribution symbolizing care, solidarity, and shared humanity.
The day’s activities included friendly football matches, heartfelt conversations, and moments of joy shared with the inmates — many of whom are often forgotten. “We’ve come face to face with the reality that incarceration doesn’t always follow malice or crime as we imagine it. Some of the stories we heard — like that of a man imprisoned for stealing food, or another facing life due to a tragic domestic accident — reminded us of the need for empathy, patience, tolerance and forgiveness,” Mr. Dowuona-Hyde reflected.
The school plans to share the lessons from this experience with its students and integrate these themes into its character development programs. Oasis International has also expressed its willingness to continue working alongside Mr. Nyantakyi and the PFAG on similar initiatives in the future.
Special thanks go to the management of the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons, especially Commander DDP Seidu, for the warm reception and the eye-opening insight into the Ghanaian correctional system.
This outreach marks a significant step in Oasis International School’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, reaffirming its commitment to raising not only brilliant minds but also kind, socially responsible hearts.
