The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah has distanced himself from Ofori-Atta’s legal troubles.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a wanted fugitive, citing alleged financial mismanagement and corruption during his tenure.
Speaking to EIB’s Ibrahim Alhassan, he stated, “Let him carry his own cross.” His comments suggest that the former minister must face the legal consequences of his actions without expecting political intervention or defense.
The OSP is currently investigating four major cases involving Ofori-Atta’s tenure as finance minister:
1. National Cathedral Procurement Scandal – Scrutiny over financial mismanagement and procurement breaches related to the controversial National Cathedral project.
2. Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML) Contract – Investigation into a multi-billion-cedi contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and SML, signed under Ofori-Atta’s leadership.
3. ECG-Beijing Jao Contract – Probe into the termination of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Beijing Jao for loss reduction and network improvements.
4. Health Ministry’s Ambulance Procurement Deal – Examination of payments related to a contract awarded to Service Ghana Auto Limited for the procurement and maintenance of 307 ambulances for the National Ambulance Service.
Ofori-Atta’s current whereabouts remain unknown, but authorities are actively working to track him down.
