An Okada rider and a passenger have been run over by a tipper truck carting sand from Akotoe to Asesewa in the Upper Manya Krobo District in the Eastern Region.
The accident occurred on Saturday.
According to reports, the truck was en-route from Akotoe to Asesewa when the motorbike attempted to overtake it.
However, during the maneuver, the motorbike lost control and slid under the truck, leading to a collision.
Tragically, the rider succumbed to the injuries on the spot.
The pillion was rushed to Asesewa Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Despite efforts to save his life, the victim passed away a few hours later.
“It happened yesterday around 7:00 am at a suburb of Upper Manya called Akotoe. The truck was from Akotoe heading towards Asesewa. Then these two guys on a motorbike also from Akotoe to Asesewa tried to overtake the truck but slipped and got under the truck so the truck run over them. One died instantly but the other was rushed to Asesewa Hospital for medical attention but unfortunately also died at exactly twelve noon,”— Akor Samuel Odehi, the District Director of the National Disaster Management Organization confirmed to Starr FM.
Meanwhile, the Police have commenced an investigation into the accident.
