Anti-Graft Campaigner, Edem Senanu says the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee set by President John Mahama does not need any constitutional backing to operate.
This comes on the back Minority in Parliament advising former President Akufo-Addo’s appointees not to honor any summons by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee in their ongoing corruption-related investigations.
They argue that the committee lacks the legal authority to conduct such probes, stressing that constitutionally established institutions should handle corruption cases.
But, speaking on Starr Today with Tutuwaa Danso, Mr. Senanu emphasized that there is no need for constitutional backing for such committees, highlighting the role of civil society organizations, such as the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), in providing a hotline for citizens to report any misuse of state resources.
“There is no need for constitutional backing I don’t know why that issue is still trending or raging in the news. Civil society, GII, we have a hotline. Persons who want to provide any information on anything happening should provide information, and they do so”, he disclosed.
He cited Article 4,1,F of the Constitution, which obligates citizens to report the misuse of state resources and assets.
“Article 4,1,F of our Constitution is categorical, that citizens have a responsibility, indeed an obligation, to report the misuse of state resources and assets. And so, there’s clear jurisdiction for anybody to report, in fact, not just to report, but also to protect, you know”, he added.
