New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member Awal Mohammed has averred that the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyabeng is trying to court favour for his security of tenure.
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng in a press conference officially declared former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive and therefore, wanted by the police.
He explained that Ofori-Atta had repeatedly refused to honour invitations for questioning regarding ongoing investigations including; the loss reduction contract between ECG and Beijing Jao, procurement over National Cathedral, contracts awarded by Health Ministry to Service Ghana Auto Limited/Ambulances and the SML-GRA deal of which he is a suspect.
Speaking on Starr FM with Naa dedei Tettey, Mr. Mohammed emphasized that the special prosecutor’s current actions are perceived as attempts to gain favor with the ruling government.
“The special prosecutor is doing all these things just to have favour, just for NDC to say that he’s doing well. He’s trying to court favour from the government.” He said.
He pointed out that there are many within the NDC who believe the special prosecutor should not hold his current position, suggesting that his actions are merely a bid to gain approval.
“There are a lot of people within the NDC who think that he’s not supposed to be there. So definitely he’s doing that just to show eligibility because now the NDC people are happy that the person that they are looking for (Ken Ofori Atta), the special prosecutor is pursuing him. And, he will be prosecuted and possibly jailed and so on,” he explained.
Despite these efforts by the special prosecutor, Mr. Mohmmed Awal has expressed uncertainty about maintaining Kissi Agyebeng’s position as a Special Prosecutor.
