President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to establishing a public university in the Oti Region, promising that the long-awaited institution will become a reality during his tenure.
Addressing residents during his Thank You Tour of the region, President Mahama emphasized that his pledge to provide each of the newly created regions with a public university remains unwavering, and the Oti Region will not be left behind.
“During my campaign, I pledged that each newly created region would have a public university. I reaffirm that promise today: Oti Region will receive its university within my tenure,” he declared.
According to the President, preliminary efforts are already underway. He revealed that work has begun in earnest with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Ministry of Education to determine the most viable model and location for the university.
“Work has already begun with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission and the Ministry of Education to identify the most feasible model and location,” he stated.
He added that the proposed university will not only serve as a centre for academic excellence but also as a key driver of innovation and economic transformation in the region. The goal, he said, is to close the educational access gap between the Oti Region and other parts of the country, enabling young people to receive quality tertiary education closer to home.
“This university will become a centre of excellence and a driver of regional innovation and economic transformation,” he emphasized.
