Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness, Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor, has paid an emotional tribute to his late friends and colleagues who died in the tragic helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, while travelling to Obuasi for the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP).
Speaking to GHOne TV at the state funeral held at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra on Friday, August 15, Dr Otokunor described the late Alhaji Dr Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, as “an amazing person with depth and class” and a man of integrity who always stood against injustice.
He revealed his personal bond with several of the victims, recounting how Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, had supported his early political journey by paying his nomination fees during the 2010 NDC elections.
He added that his friendship with Murtala Mohammed extended beyond politics, with the two often referring to each other as “fellow combatants” in the fight for justice.
Dr Otokunor also spoke fondly of Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, whom he described as family due to their shared hometown, and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, with whom he had collaborated closely on agricultural initiatives.
