Ibrahim Saanie Daara, CAF Media Officer, has highlighted that in order to maintain high standards, players must earn their call-ups to the Black Stars based on merit and dedication.
Speaking exclusively to GHOne TV, the former head of communications for the Ghana FA, explained that the strategy will guarantee that players will play with pride and commitment if they are chosen to represent the country.
“A lot of young players that have come into the team have not struggled very much to get into the team and feel that it’s easy to get into the national team, And I think that this point must be made clear” he said.
“I think that we should widen the scope not only into the top leagues of the world but also give Those that are on the periphery of the top leagues of Europe. One example that comes straight off the top of my head is Bernard Tekpetey. For how long will this young lad keep on performing well in the Bulgaria league? But maybe just because he’s playing in Bulgaria, we are not giving preference to him. We are giving preference more to players who play in the EPL. The Bundesliga, Italy, Spain and Germany. I think that we should re-change the strategy and give more opportunities to some players that are in there”.
“If we give the opportunity, the thing that it will bring in the team is competition. Otherwise, those that are dead now will feel that they are the only ones available for that country,” he told GHOne TV.
Ghana currently sits third in Group F with just two points from four games, and qualification is no longer in their hands.
The Black Stars must win their remaining matches and hope that Sudan, who have seven points, lose both of theirs in order to qualify.
The Black Stars will play their match against Angola in Luanda on November 15 and wraps up with Niger on November 18 at Accra Sports Stadium.
