The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects following investigations into a viral video showing the physical abuse of a child at Agona Jamasi in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement dated Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the Police said the arrests were carried out by the IGP’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team after the disturbing video circulated widely on social media.
The suspects were identified as Grace Mensah and Godfred Osei Akoto, the man seen in the footage assaulting the child.
According to preliminary investigations, the incident reportedly occurred on December 6, 2025, after the 11-year-old girl went out and failed to return home.
Suspect Godfred Osei Akoto told investigators that he claimed to have had authorisation from the child’s grandmother to assault her.

The victim has since been rescued, while both suspects have been handed over to the Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) for further investigations.

The Police update follows an earlier statement issued by the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, which confirmed that the matter had been referred to the Ghana Police Service and assured the public of ongoing investigations to ensure justice is served.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its firm commitment to protecting children and dealing decisively with all forms of abuse.
