Mohammed Taufiq Adamu, a political communications lecturer at UPSA, has raised doubts about the effectiveness of the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) investigative committee probing alleged vote buying during the Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries.
The party established a three-member committee to investigate the allegations, with a report expected by Tuesday, February 10, 2026. Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has launched a separate probe into the matter.
The NDC Majority Caucus has also demanded the cancellation of the primary and the disqualification of any candidates found guilty of vote buying.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Monday, February 9, Adamu said, “The evidence is out there. Everybody has seen it. Every Ghanaian has seen it. Not only Ghanaian, it’s on social media. So the world has seen it. So what committee of enquiry do we need?”
He criticized what he described as committees that often serve to delay or justify actions rather than ensure accountability.
“If people want to hide things, they just set up a committee. And at the end of the day, they will not even publish the committee’s report to you,” he said.
Adamu further stressed that due process must result in action, not just investigation.
“The due process has to be with the action that has to be taken. But as I speak right now, I’ve never read from anywhere that Baba Jamal has been invited by the party, disciplinary whatever,” he said, highlighting the lack of visible enforcement measures in the matter.
Meanwhile, Baba Jamal, the main figure in the allegations, has denied any wrongdoing and asserted that he is ready to face any investigative committee.
