Puma Energy Ghana has partnered with five local LPG distributors as part of efforts to support the government’s target of achieving 50% Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) penetration by 2030 through the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM).

The partnership agreements, signed in Accra, involve Puma Energy and Earth Energy, Sandhill Oil and Gas, Riet Company Limited, Hamcom 8 Limited and StepGas Limited.

The collaboration seeks to strengthen Ghana’s LPG value chain by shifting distribution from traditional fuel stations towards a more decentralised, neighbourhood-oriented network that brings LPG closer to consumers, particularly households in peri-urban and rural communities.

Under the initiative, customers will be able to exchange empty cylinders for pre-filled, safety-verified cylinders, improving convenience and safety while reducing barriers to LPG access.

The partnership is anchored on Puma Energy’s “3y3 Good Exchange” initiative, which allows customers to exchange old cylinders for new, approved cylinders at no cost.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, General Manager of Puma Energy Ghana, Lanzeni Coulibaly, said the initiative represents a new approach to LPG distribution.

“We are introducing a new distribution philosophy today, bringing safe and affordable energy closer to Ghanaians.”

He said the company was leveraging its capabilities to support the government’s goal of achieving 50% LPG penetration by 2030.

Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, also emphasised the importance of collaboration between the regulator and industry players.

He said a strong partnership between Puma Energy Ghana and the NPA would help create an environment that supports the growth of the Ghanaian economy.

Puma Energy said the integration of the five distributors into its supply chain would expand access to clean cooking and improve the reach of LPG to final consumers.

The company also linked increased LPG adoption to potential public health and environmental benefits, noting that household air pollution from solid fuels remains a significant environmental health concern, particularly for women and children.

As part of its expansion plans, Puma Energy said more than 40,000 new NPA-compliant cylinders would be introduced between July and September 2026.

The new cylinders are expected to nearly triple the company’s initial capacity of 24,000 cylinders, as part of a multi-million-dollar investment programme aimed at expanding its cylinder fleet to 300,000 within the next two years.

According to the company, the expanded fleet could serve about 30,000 local communities.

The five distributors, all 100% Ghanaian-owned enterprises, are expected to support the nationwide expansion by bringing local market knowledge and distribution capacity to the initiative.

Representatives of the companies said the partnership would help improve LPG availability, create jobs and extend access to cleaner cooking solutions.

Puma Energy said the partnership is also intended to strengthen local enterprise while building a safer, more reliable and resilient LPG distribution network across Ghana.
