The Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) has issued a strong public caution following reports of fraudulent individuals and groups impersonating officials of the Secretariat to extort money from unsuspecting miners.
According to the Programme, these individuals falsely claim to be agents of rCOMSDEP, promising miners access to mineral-rich concessions in exchange for payments under the pretext of enrolling them in the Responsible Cooperative Mining Scheme.
The Secretariat, however, has firmly rejected these claims, stressing that it has not appointed any representatives to register miners in any part of the country.
“rCOMSDEP does not have agents and has not authorised any individuals or groups in any region to conduct registration of miners for the Responsible Cooperative Mining Scheme,” the Programme stated in a public disclaimer.
It further urged the public to disregard anyone purporting to act on its behalf, describing such persons as unscrupulous individuals seeking to defraud miners.
The Programme warned that anyone found engaging in these illegal activities would be arrested, prosecuted, and sanctioned in accordance with Ghanaian law.
rCOMSDEP also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected fraudsters to the Ghana Police Service.
For official information and inquiries on responsible cooperative mining, the public is advised to visit the rCOMSDEP website or contact its national office through the approved communication channels.
