The five-member Parliamentary ad-hoc committee investigating the cash for seat saga is expected to present its final report to Parliament today, February 1, 2018.
The committee requested for a 24-hour extension on Wednesday to enable it complete its work and submit the report. It follows a one week extension of the deadline given to the adhoc committee to present its report after probing allegations that the Trade Ministry took money from expatriate business owners to have access to the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Aaron Oquaye set up the bi-partisan committee to probe claims that the Trade Ministry extorted as much as $100,000 from expatriates to allow them to sit close to the President at the recently held Ghana Expatriates Business Awards.
The trade minister Alan Kyerematen, his deputies as well as some of the business owners who attended the event were questioned by the Ameyaw Kyeremeh-led committee.
The Presidency has already cleared the Trade Minister of any wrongdoing.
“The facts, as reported to the president, do not disclose any wrongdoing on the part of the Minister or any government official,” a statement from the Information minister said.
