The family of the late Madam Gertrude Essie Quashigah has issued a strongly worded press statement calling on former Minister for Gender, Sarah Adwoa Safo, to retract allegations regarding the mismanagement of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) during Madam Quashigah’s tenure as National Coordinator.
Signed by Isaac Aidoo, Esq., on behalf of the family and children, the statement expresses deep sadness and disappointment over what they describe as “unfounded and unfortunate accusations” against their late mother, who served from 2019 until her passing in 2023.
“Our mother carried out her responsibilities with the highest levels of integrity, dedication, and selflessness,” the statement reads. It highlights the remarkable expansion of the program under her leadership, benefiting thousands of Ghanaian schoolchildren by improving nutrition and welfare.
The family finds the allegations particularly painful, given that Madam Quashigah is no longer alive to defend herself. They stress that these remarks have caused distress not only to them but also to those who respected her contributions to national development.
Adding to their disappointment, the statement notes the historical relationship between the Quashigah and Safo families, citing shared bonds of mutual respect and public service through their respective fathers—Major Courage Quashigah (Rtd.) and Apostle Kwadwo Safo.
The family is calling on Hon. Adwoa Safo to issue an “unqualified apology” and refrain from further statements that tarnish Madam Quashigah’s legacy. They also urge Ghanaians to honor her memory as a woman who devoted her life to the betterment of children and national service.
