The Executive Director of Transparency International Ghana, Mary Addah, has added her voice to the growing public and political scrutiny surrounding the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi.
Her comments follow widespread backlash after a viral video surfaced showing Mr. Gyamfi handing what appeared to be U.S. dollars to controversial evangelist and former fetish priestess, Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
The footage sparked immediate public outrage, with the Minority Caucus calling for Mr. Gyamfi’s suspension.
They insisted that the same standards applied in the Cecilia Dapaah case, where the former minister was investigated over large sums of cash found in her home, should also apply here.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Mrs. Addah questioned the broader issue of wealth accumulation and public accountability among political appointees.
She added that this incident, much like the Cecilia Dapaah case during President Akufo-Addo’s administration, underscores the urgent need to scrutinize public officers and enforce anti-corruption protocols more rigorously.
Mrs. Addah stated, “The serious challenge with me is the fact that we need to begin to question. How much are these people paid to be able to merit or achieve such lifestyles where they can behave the way they do so as a society, we need to begin to question and I think it is the right time that this has come up. If you remember it happened in the Nana Addo’s administration, when a public office also had money located in a room.”
“Today we have a public officer who has foreign currency as well in his car Which is doing out and it’s publicly available for all of us to also see today. And I’m very happy today because it’s making that discussion even more imperative because the president has launched his codes and the codes if they must be Implemented and implemented well, some of these trials and some of these instances would help to ship them and would help the people of Ghana see the president in action.”
