Ghana has bid a final farewell to six of the eight victims of the August 6 helicopter crash, as they were laid to rest with full military honours at the Military Cemetery in Tse Addo, Accra.
The solemn state funeral, held at Black Star Square on Friday, August 15, drew President John Dramani Mahama, top government officials, security chiefs, religious leaders, and thousands of mourners.
The ceremony blended Christian, Islamic, and military traditions, symbolizing national unity in grief.
Among those buried were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, NDC National Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former Obuasi East parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, and Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flight Lieutenant Manaen Twum-Ampadu, and Flight Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, were buried earlier in line with Islamic rites on August 10.
President Mahama, in his tribute, described the tragedy as “a national loss” and announced posthumous promotions for the three military officers who died in the crash.
He also unveiled a specialised fund to support the education and welfare of the children of all eight victims.
Tributes poured in from bereaved families, government officials, and mourners across the country, hailing the dedication and sacrifice of the departed.
The August 6 tragic disaster has left an indelible mark on the nation as Ghanaians continue to mourn in sorrow.
The burial marked the final journey home for the fallen officials and soldiers whose deaths have left the nation in mourning.
